Meet Esteban. The Man Behind SudameriCampers.

A lifelong passion for 4x4 vehicles, years of overland experience and a genuine love for South America.

MY STORY

From a Travel Dream to SudameriCampers

Although I was born in Asuncion, Paraguay, I lived many years abroad and it wasn’t until my thirties that I got to explore this continent in some detail.

Since I could remember, I was always fascinated by cars and 4x4s, and I had a very large number of vehicles over the years with which I learn a lot, until I eventually decided to open my auto repair shop in 2008.

Although I am not a mechanic, I acquired an immense amount of knowledge in regards to vehicles during these years,  which would be invaluable in the future when I started searching for an overland vehicle and eventually travelling.

I remember very clearly the rainy winter day in which a couple of nomads travelling around the continent came to my shop to have their Land Rover serviced, which reignited this eagerness to travel in me which simply wasn’t there since my teenage years.

MY EXPERIENCE

What the road taught me

Over the years, I’ve travelled tens of thousands of kilometers across South America – alone, with friends and later with my family.

From Mitsubishi Delicas and Toyota Land Cruisers to Nissan Patrols, pickups and camper vans, I’ve experienced many different types of vehicles.

And here’s what I’ve learned: There’s no such thing as the perfect overland vehicle. Only the right vehicle for your journey.

Every trip has taught me something new about vehicles, equipment, road conditions and the practical challenges of travelling across this incredible continent.

MY EXPERIENCE

Why I started SudameriCampers

When I planned my first big journey, I had plenty of questions. Which vehicle should I choose? What paperwork would I need? How would border crossings work? And what would happen to the vehicle after my trip?

Finding reliable answers wasn’t always easy.

That’s why I started SudameriCampers: to share what I’ve learned and help other travelers find the right vehicle, deal with the paperwork and get their South American adventure off to a good start.
